The Springfield Police Department in Springfield, MO, is issuing Halloween safety tips for the upcoming holiday, emphasizing planning, costume visibility, and driver awareness.
Springfield, MO, October 30, 2026 — The Springfield Police Department in Springfield, Missouri, has announced it is providing safety recommendations for residents as Halloween approaches. The department aims to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all by highlighting key areas of concern, including proactive planning, the importance of visible costumes, and heightened awareness from drivers.
Officials are urging families to engage in thorough planning before heading out for Halloween festivities. This advice typically involves establishing clear routes, setting a consistent curfew for trick-or-treating, and ensuring that children are accompanied by a responsible adult. The department emphasizes that preparation can significantly reduce potential risks associated with the holiday.
A significant focus of the safety campaign is on costume visibility. The police department advises that costumes should be made with lighter colors or incorporate reflective materials to make individuals, particularly children, more visible to drivers and others in the community, especially after dark. Additionally, ensuring that masks or face paint do not obstruct a person’s field of vision is crucial for preventing accidents.
Furthermore, the Springfield Police Department is reminding drivers to exercise increased caution throughout the Halloween period. The advisory calls for motorists to be particularly attentive to pedestrians, who may be present in greater numbers and moving unpredictably. Drivers are encouraged to slow down in residential areas and be watchful for children who might dart into streets unexpectedly. Similarly, pedestrians, especially young trick-or-treaters, are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and obey traffic signals and laws.
The department’s initiative seeks to promote a community-wide approach to Halloween safety, encouraging both residents and visitors to adopt preventative measures to ensure a positive experience during the holiday.
